Crater Box; reupholstered question?

Hi OF
I have a crater box that I think the inner insert has been reupholstered and was looking for opinions. It is a thicker corduroy than the rest of the material, but has aged to the same tone and feel as the tighter material. Every picture I have seen has the tighter, thinner lined material like lines the rest of this box on the insert as well. (Pretty sure insert is correct otherwise)

If they didn’t look like they matched as far as color/aging I wouldn’t even ask but since they do I am curious what your opinion is. I don’t think it had the value 20+ years ago to go through the effort to do this but I don’t know. Hard to capture for me in photos but the “patina” of age and light staining really matches up and material feels the same to the touch.

Thanks and yes I know what they look like when clean which is why I am asking the question. (not being snarky, an example picture is always helpful to the discussion. Thanks for adding it.)

Like I said the only reason I am even asking is it is vintage replacement work for sure and I have no idea why someone would have done this 20+ years ago to my eye to have it end up looking like it is today. I do think it is redone like I said originally, why who knows, I guess I am really just double checking there aren't some weird late production variations that I didnt know about. I should have just asked it that way originally and saved a little typing lol...

I sold one of these back in 2019 and it looks the same as yours, so I'm thinking it's original, unless it was redone with the exact same material as yours 👎

The box and Mark II racing dial speedmaster were purchased from original owners son.

Wow. Case closed, so to speak.

As a comparison, here are my two crater boxes.

The one on the left came with a NOS full set 145.022-69.
The one on the right came with a 145.014 racing MarkII.

Thanks for the info and pictures, not a bad way to start a Monday.

The box you posted had a couple of similar marks so I had to double check its not the same box, I bought it in 2020, and it is not. Similar wear pattern but different boxes for sure.

Thanks for posting!

Could very well be original. Omega was not really meticulously with its watch boxes, except recent years. And being honest, these tacky cardboard boxes with their strange blueish paper moon crater surface looked rather cheap those days compared to a Heuer checkered flag box. Mine was even used as an ashtray by one of its owners 😵‍💫
