Should this box be repaired or will a repair ruin the value? What should be done to the box and what type of artisan should I contact? What is the value now and how much would the value be once repaired? Thank you!
I don't understand. I posted three images but they won't show. When I choose "options and edit", I can see the attachments.
I tried uploading the originals by mistake, I suspect the files were simply too large. Thanks for the advice, please have a look at my original post.
Ditto- exactly why I was thinking. The people who do bookbinding repair should be able to do it riggt
On a red 60s Omega box I have carefully back the wrong lining and reinserted those type of hinges into the broken slots and then pieced as many of the found sections of plastic together with Epoxy. I used West Gflex epoxy. I worked in a bindery during HS and don't see a similarity with book construction. Being patient and careful helps. Oh, I tucked and pressed lining back into place. Maybe rubber cement would secure the lining but not sure. I did not need to and worry about glue bleeding through. I would try a glue that would not soak into cloth and bleed through so would suggest practice with scrap material if you need to secure the lining that way.
I was thinking the same thing-there was a roll or two in every space capsule- good enough for NASA....
Is that gray plastic I see that forms the inner portion of the box? Is only the outside with the moon printing cardboard? If so those hinges slide into those plastic channels and are supposed to lock via the pointy tangs on the hinges. Did they just get pulled out or are those channels cracked and maybe missing some of the plastic. The red Omega box I repaired was badly shattered where those hinges slide into and I had to rebuild the plastic and encapsulate the hinge ends at the same time. I Did the bottom first then did the top. Then put the lining back.
I repeat @Vercingetorix post....but I know, it part of the whole package and a part of the collectibility....but it’s a box!!!
