I picked it up on auction. The crown is signed, the back has "9.124.42" stamped on the back - a google search on this number turns up 1 Ebay listing from 2016, but pix have gone long ago
I got caught out a while back and was lucky to get my money back. there were a lot of fakes made in the early 70's that have weathered over time to give a more vintage impression. As DB about says, that's really not much to go on. I'm not quite sure why he's so quick to say the dial is a fantasy. But he does know his onions (and watches too!) The hands are more suspect IMHO..I can't quite tell if the watch is slightly an an angle making the logo look squint (which would be a dead giveaway)....but I've seen a few JLC with this sort of minimalist dial . The case at first glance from this pic looks to be of a material and quality one might expect from JLC assuming it was original to this watch. ...pop the back off and gives a pic. For me , the jury is still deliberating! Hope you didn't spend too much on it.
Well its here, it turns out that the reference is 9124.42, and I've found several watches that kinda look like it: 9124 is the case reference, from the Vogue line. Caliber 818. Catalog entry dates 6/75. Diameter 33.5mm, lug size 18mm, organic crystal. Dial variants white, blue, smoked, gilt. Watch was available in 18k yellow gold as well. Here are pix of the watch from my phone:
Looks legit in your photos. Movement looks to be in-house. I'm trying to read the number under the balance - maybe 473? Edit: Sorry, I failed to read your post carefully where you said it was a cal 818.
Good to see it’s a real JLC inside and out. That dial ...I’m curious if you have found any other examples of that same outline-style font for the JL logo.
Yes, thanks, I see now that the white one is not the OP’s watch. New one for me, always something to learn in this hobby, The blue one font is not the same, though I have seen it before.
