Could someone help me identify this watch and movement?

The title says it all… my research didn’t lead me to anything concrete, I’m afraid 😬

Do some of you guys know something about this?

full disclosure - I will sell it on the bay! I don’t want you to see it later and feel somehow “used” for helping me out

The watch dates from the mid 1930’s.

The movement caliber (model) number should be engraved under the balance wheel. There is no way to see it from that photo.

Do you have a picture of the watch fully assembled?

Almost NOS… 😀 😀 😀

I will try to see if there’s something written under the balance wheel

If you measure the diameter of the movement, that could also help. Looks small, so perhaps a 23.4

I found one just like it! Called the Medicus. There were several references in both round and square cases. This was the first Omega watch with a central seconds hand.

I believe the case reference on this one is CK651.

This style of watch was marketed to doctors. You are missing the prominent seconds hand and the central seconds assembly. Very strange.

The “tail” of the minute hand has also broken off.

Hope this helps,

Wow!!! Thanks guys! What an amazing detective work! I will speak to my watchmaker to see if the dial is manageable and if he can find the hands. If possible I will keep it and will no longer go to the bay. Thank you again 😀😀😀😀

Assuming it is supposed to have a center sweep seconds hand, I think the movement is missing something also (third wheel etc.?). Something needs to drive that little gear in the center. Not sure what's going on, we need @Canuck or @Archer. ;-)

Tomorrow I will try to see what’s written under the balance wheel. It can be the my first 2022 project. A visit to my watchmaker will clear some doubts I guess. If it turns out to be too much to handle I will sell it. I will keep you up to date. You deserve after your help. 😀

The current movement looks like it's one of the 30 or 260 series based on general layout, hard to differentiate this one but I'm struggling to cope with the depiction that they were 1939 onwards according to this line:

The case is only 27mm. I thought it might be a 23.4 base movement.
Could well be, I'm still a numpty at this 😜 this is a 23.4, and i notice the centre retainer and an obvious purpose.

I was just pointing out that the movements you mentioned are 30mm in diameter, which is larger than the case. The 23.4 layout is somewhat similar if you have a look, but obviously small enough to fit in a 27mm case.

It is clearly a cal. 23.4 SC with missing drive wheel over 3rd wheel (this constructions helps to drive the centre second hand)

And as others already stated its the square Medicus.

These are not very common and IMO it would be worth to restore and keep it!

If that dial can be cleaned (not washed or restored) into an acceptable position it will be a 2022 project for sure. Will try to see my watchmaker to see if he can handle this 😀

thank you all again for copping in
