Agree. The hands and crown are not original. Case is pretty beaten up too.

If we are commenting on condition, the dial is also poor, since someone has completely removed the minute track between 4 and 6 o'clock.

i noticed that too, well it is kind of hard to miss, out of curiosity what would cause that problem? was it the minute hand dragging there or maybe some other reason that is a more serious problem?

Very rough condition, it's not something I would want to strap on. There are far better examples out there.

It looks like someone made a botched attempt at patching up a part of the dial with paint.

are you referring to that same area at 5 oclock or do you see something else? i thought the 5 oclock problem would be from a dragging hand, but again i am not super confident in my analysis. thank you!

Most likely an attempt at cleaning IMO. That does not look like hand-drag to me.

I think the dial is an older redial to begin with. The only value I see here is in the movement, and it isn’t much.

i am curious how you know this? what leads you to believe it was an older redial? I ask because I would like to learn these things.

1. Jaeger-LeCoultre watches of this vintage (1940’s or early 1950’s) generally had “Swiss” at the bottom of the dial.
2. Black dials were relatively rare during this period, except for specific military issued watches. This is clearly not a military watch.
3. Having a black painted seconds hand on a black dialed watch make almost no sense. Very difficult to see.
4. Radium numeral look very crude, like they were inexpertly hand painted.

Too much evidence points in the direction of this watch not leaving the factory with a black dial.

Thank you for explaining, I see exactly what you are talking about. Also I hate to be a bother, I am just learning and dont want to make a costly mistake, but would you mind giving me your opinion of the JLC in the photo attached here.

Lots of rust on this one, but I think the dial is original. The case is in poor condition also.

You really want to stay away from chrome plated cases. One little scratch and moisture gets under the plating. The brass case starts reacting with the water, gas forms, and then the chrome plating starts coming off in chunks.

Thank you for your advice and taking the time to explain it to me.
