Some nearly 20 years ago, when I was a Young vintage Omega collector, I bought a 27 DLPC TDMP ref 2471-1 from 1947. The price was somehow low but I realised later that, although the case and caliber were in very good condition, the dial was a poor redial. So I decided to look for a replacement dial, hoping to find a donnor with damaged caliber . Years passed and this project remained a project.

Finally, I bought this one on the Bay :

Dial is not in a very good condition and the case is overpolished but I found the radium dial and hands unusual and attractive. This watch was discussed here : https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-tdm.72173/page-2

Then my plan changed from finding a donnor for my first cosmic to using it as a case donnor for the second one.

Here is now the result after case swap :

    And after :

To illustrate how polished was the case of the second one, just look at the difference in lug thickness :

Finally, an illustration from a 1950 catalog :

Good result, I was an underbidder on the radium dialled version and my main concern was the over-polished case too

We don't see these very often. According to AJTT, about 50,000 were made over 9 years up to 1956 - not SO long ago, compared with some much older calibres which we see often. Furthermore, it's not such an everyday watch: I would have expected them to survive. Where are they?

Someone just said in another thread something about these cases being porous which makes the dial prone to damage and deterioration. This was a big grail of mine but that makes me very nervous.

Edit to add: I think it was @MSNWatch who said it? Regardless he has quite a number of these so he could probably shed some light. Maybe he is hoarding half of them... :)
