This Constellation Reference 14393 10 SC, 1961, Caliber 561 is suppose to have a decagonal crown as in the last picture? Yes No? Do all Constellation have decagonal crowns. If no when did they start not have or begin to have them? Sorry for the newbie question.
Hi, there is a in depth going study on this theme by Desmond in his very informative blog. http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.de/2009/01/omega-constellation-crowning-glories.html He also wrote on all other themes concerning Constellation watches. Regards, Christoph P.S. The last picture does not show a decagonal crwon
I also find this to be a useful reference. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f20/constellation-crown-conundrum-446043.html It’s not 100% conclusive, I think the debate still goes on!
It's been talked about quite extensively here on OF. Both the thin 10 sided and the "scallop" crowns are seen as originally equipped for the 14381 and 14393. In my experience, the scallop has been seen more frequently both in real life and on old catalogs. Both have been discontinued though.
That one is completely correct, as is the scalloped crown which @JohnSteed links to. I vastly prefer the scalloped, as the decagonal one is a hateful, user-unfriendly design if there ever was one. Looks great though
Is the scalloped crown also obsolete? It looks somewhat like the Seamaster De Ville crown but I know this is split so maybe completely different. I have a 14381 fitted with the small decagonal that I would like to swap to my 168.005 if I could find the scalloped version. EDIT: just noted what @TNTwatch said about both being unavailable.
By the way, if you should consider to buy the watch you should be aware that the dial is repainted IMO. The case of the 14393 is some 1mm wider than most of the Constellations from the 50ies and 60ies as far as I know... Christoph
I always thought they were the same size. Although they do wear a little bigger than some due to the beefier lugs. Here’s a pic I took a while ago when someone asked a similar question.
It’s a shame though as this is a thread about crowns he couldn’t keep it authentic with the dog leg Only joking, I am only jealous.
So true. The dogleg came with box, papers, an Omega fix-o-flex bracelet, original sales receipt and even the hang tag And a bloody replacement crown! (But as @ConElPueblo ssys at least I can wind the damn thing)
Ok still confused the two photos are decagonal crowns? And the photo posted above in my second post (the same picture below)is a scalloped crown?
