    just a wild thought ...

    If I had a:

    - quartz SMP ...
    and a generic 2892-a2 ...

could I convert the watch from Q to AUTO?

or is there more involved (movement rings, date window matching up, etc...)

full disclosure: for private pleasure - not for future sale

thoughts ? has anybody done that? how involved was it?

    thx for input

Why bother? It isn't a rare watch, just buy the real thing.

There is a saying in the car world used mostly for engine swaps. "Anything can be done with enough money" usually followed by "is it worth trying?"

that's sort of like stuffing a flat head straight 6 into a Corvette.... Sure it'll bolt straight up, by why would you.

Dial won't fit the movement, so use double-sided tape. Quartz hands won't fit the automatic. Calendar aperture of the Quartz dial not suited to the date of the mechanical. Case of the Quartz different enough to the mechanical case that the movement very unlikely to fit. Probably an alignment problem with the opening for the crown and stem being different. I'm going to say not possible! But I've been wrong before!

Other than the case, dial, hands being different, it should drop right in... ;)

... so ... anybody any good tips how to source a case, handset, crowns, movement and a dial? ::rimshot::

Why not find the watch you really really want (to quote the Spice Girls), negotiate your best price, and buy it? It usually costs a LOT more to built something off the parts shelf than it does to buy it outright!
