Hello, I’ve just bought this fairly battered watch. It’s a beauty in need of some TLC - but hoping to get some help identifying the exact model and year - can anyone help?

It looks like a ref. 168.0055 from the early 1970's. It sure can use some cosmetic work, does it run?

This is my 168.7239 with cal 1001 and unfluted bezel, a predecessor of the 168.0055 with cal 1011 and a fluted bezel.
This ....7xxx numbering seems to be for special versions or dealers.
What the ref code for the steel unfluted watch is, I dont know, but would be interested to know. So please open the case back, look inside and show and tell us. Konrad

Often precious metal Omega watches with leading non zero in the second part or the Mapics code eg 198.5001 were authorised local production. 5 was UK. 7 will be somewhere else like Italy or France maybe. Have you checked what else is written on the inside of the caseback?

This occurred to me too.
3 was for France.

I don’t think we’ve seen any other local production country-number designations.

It would be interesting if 7 was another one.

Just looked at my records. 9 was the leading digit for Italian made cases so 7 must be someplace else. Germany, Spain perhaps?

I only know, what Desmond on the ref 7190 wrote, but thats not the 168.7xxx:
" It took the museum’s Charles Bernhard some time to pour through its Swiss distribution records originally maintained by Gameo to connect the number 7190 appearing on the inner case back with the reference number and indeed the history behind the watch. Four digit case numbers were exclusive jewellery designs normally reserved for high-end outlets that had enough clout to procure examples that were outside Omega’s normal range."

The 7190 is seen sometimes in Grand Luxe and watches with fix attached 18k bracelet.
I have one Grand Luxe with diamonds of this ref 7190:
