Hello I have inherited a Constellation from my late grandfather and I am interested in getting it restored/serviced/refurbished in the North West or Yorkshire area of England. Can anyone advise somewhere local to me who could provide this service? The watch was purchased in 1977 but I believe it dates from the early to mid 60s. At the moment the watch doesn't work but I have avoided winding it, the 7 marker is missing and the strap is damaged but does have an Omega buckle I am new to the world of vintage omega watches so any other advice or information would be greatly received. Many thanks
I think you'll get numerous recommendations for this place in Essex. http://www.swisstimeservices.co.uk/ They are well versed in sympathetically restoring vintage Omegas.
Welcome to the forum Are you sure it's a .010? With the flat dial and pronounced crown it looks more like an .018 to me Shame about the missing marker You can try the watchguy also There was a recent thread on the watchguy (use the OF search function )that had another recommendation too
Hello peemacgee and thanks for the reply The only reason I think it's a .010 is from the "paperwork" i have for it. I've added some more images Out of interest is it something that is worth getting serviced? I would like to given the watch has sentimental value but just weighing up the cost of service v value of watch...? Thanks
Yes it's worth getting serviced. Apart from the sentimental value it is a great watch and apart from the missing marker, which I'm sure can be replaced, it looks in pretty good condition. When serviced it will still give years of accurate service and of course it looks very handsome.
If you particularly wanted a watchmaker closer to you, Richard Askham in Barnsley has a good reputation. His website is here: http://thewatchspotblog.com/
Thanks for the responses David and Edward. A local(ish) watchmaker would be my preference being as this is the first time i would have had any work like this done and for some reason I have reservations about posting the watch but i'm guessing for logistical reasons people do post them for service and repair... Sorry to ask more questions but does anyone have any recommendations for where a replacement marker could be sourced? Tried the obvious google search and found cousinsuk and Otto Frei as spare part suppliers, but are there any others?
You will need to find a spare dial - markers do not sell separately. Your best bet is either a "want to buy" advert on here (someone might have a movement with a dial lying around), or look it up on eBay. Have a talk with the moderators about being allowed to post in the WTB section.
The dial shows two holes where, I thought, two rivets or pins fixed through the dial. Is it not possible to refit the markers using the same fixing holes ?
Theoretically, you are correct. In practice, Omega only sells (or sold, in this case) full replacement dials with the markers. gatorcpa
I thought the query was because I suggested that the dial could be fixed (by STS or a watchmaker with spares) rather than replaced which would be a shame as the rest of the dial looks ok.
Yes, but you'll need to have the missing markers - hence the need for a spare dial, where you can pry them off. As I wrote, markers are not sold separately.
Again, I don't think any watchmaker would have "spares" on these esoteric dial pieces, unless they just happened to have a salvaged dial of the same reference. In my experience, most watchmakers don't purchase spare parts for inventory. If they need something, they'll buy it when needed. gatorcpa
However... Since these are gold coloured, it is probably not outside the realm of possibility to find a dial + movement where the (yellow gold) case has been melted.
Thanks for passing on the knowledge and info for tracking down a marker... Now to start the search for a dial
