A friend of mine has a Constellation with arrowhead markers, 501, supposedly from 1956. According to the seller the model no. is 2852-6SC and the reference is 15009261. I have been told that it is not rare that a Constellation dial is put into a Seamaster, because they both had the same caliber 501 in this period. I enclose some pictures and wonder whether this is the case also here.

Pictures are vital but while I have seen constellation dials placed in seamaster cases it is not a common thing and as far as vintage omega collectors are concerned, an unacceptable watch unless it is to be used for parts.

The 1500xxxx is not the reference but the serial number, unique to the watch. And for 15 million range, it is indeed from 1956.

Your friend looks to have a very nice Connie
The case has seen a little polishing as the lugs and bezel have lost their full definition but the dial is great
(Don't know who has been pecking at the back though??!!)

The dial is looking really great. The case would look absolutely stunning if it had a sympathetic refurbishment (by someone skilled, mind you!), as not too much of the crispness has gone, it has only been covered in light scratches.

The "pecking" on the back is due to a one-piece nylon strap; look at how there is a line going straight across the back (the case back isn't closed completely, so it looks slanted in the photo).

Thank you very much for your insight! I noticed the freshness of the dial, hoping it is not a redial...

Nice watch but not a pie-pan though.

I don't think so. Looks original throughout. Very nice watch, but a shame about the caseback.

    Omega calls these "pie-pan" dials:

    Not everyone agrees.

Those look more like dents to me, not nato wear, the medallion would have been smoothed out a lot more by a strap. I couldn't explain what could cause that though.

I have a watch with the exact same pattern - it's much more pronounced at the edges than in the center. Notice how that it describes a line going from top to bottom of the case back because the strap has run that way.

The idea of a strap causing the "pecking" sounds sensible. As for polishing, I am advised to do some "sympathetic refurbishment by someone skilled" - does anyone have a suggestion where to go?
