Hello,
First of all congrats to this community it has been of a great help in the realm of omega vintage watches.
My journey started a few months ago when dad decided to pass on his dads watch to me, a Constellation circa 1974 gold 18k, since is not an every day watch I ended up getting a second omega in the market, a Seamaster tuning fork circa 1972.
Decided to contact an omega dealer in Sydney to service the constellation and their reply was as follow:

Dear Mr XXXX,

Thank you for your online enquiry.

Calibre 751 is a vintage calibre that needs to be sent to our vintage specialist workshop in headquarter Switzerland for service and restoration.

Complete service will start from $1060 and turnaround time will be around 10-12 months depending on whether the timepiece needs dial restoration or not.

You are more than welcome to visit our Martin Place boutique any time at your convenience to discuss further.

Thank you. < end quote

well I’m not sure if is me exaggerating, but waiting up to a year for a service seems excessive not to mention the word FROM on the price with open T&Cs

I guess my options are reduced to seek for a local watchmaker to do the service. The watch isn’t in need of a restoration as far as I’m concerned, I took contact in regards to a general service as a good practice.
Well feedback is very much welcome
Regards

Keep your dad’s watch as he gave it to you. Don’t let it end up at Omega for the service. The character of the watch in the condition he gave it will be lost forever. Find a reputable watchmaker who services Omega and get a good service and going over internally. Give them specific instructions not to touch the dial. You can very likely get this done in a more timely manner and for much less if the watch is already in working order and doesn’t need a major internal overhaul.

You and I showed up here for the same reason: we got our dad’s watch. Mine is a 1952 Seamaster bumper and, while it did run, it needed some special internal attention to the movement. It is being serviced as we speak….and they aren’t touching the dial.

It’s a beauty of a watch. Congrats and good luck!

Thanks for these encouraging words, defaulted to Omega as don’t know a reputable watchmaker in the regional area am at, likely will be looking for one and take that course of action which seems bit riskier but more practical.
glad to hear others are keeping family timepieces…. need to star educating my son who will be getting it some day, for now is for me to enjoy

I would suggest contacting Adam Lewis in Perth.

He recently serviced my Speedmaster for me and the process was easy and there were no problems at all.
Pricing will be close to Omega but the wait time and service results are much more acceptable.

Adam is Omega certified and highly regarded by our little Aussie group, contact him with your watch details and requirements and I'm sure he will be able to advise you.
