Hi all, This hidden crown with dome dial is rose gold capped. I cant tell if it is a 168.004 or 168.010 due to the bad quality photos. Dial and hands seem correct and original, caseback looks good with brick observatory and big stars. Am I missing something?, how is the hidden crown dome dial valued compared against the much more popular dog legged pie pan as this piece is offered at ~1500usd. Thank you all for your inputs
Are you sure it's rose gold? Looks like yellow gold to me. Price seems a bit steep... Remember that gold capped are probably the least sought after variants.
To my eyes it is rose gold maybe because of the light, seller claims it is rose gold capped as well. Yes price seems abit too high thats why I am asking about the value vs the much more desirable pie pan or only because rose gold capped is much rarer than 14k capped
A bit of supposition here It could be a. 018 because the (19mm wide) lugs always look bent when you try to photograph them from behind Looks Yellow to me too But it is really difficult to photograph pink gold However the medallion should be pink too and it looks quite yellow I love my rose gold dome dial and it looks great on the wrist Here's mine - looks yellowy too but it's definitely pink !
I should have added that 1500 is steep I just bought a lovely steel. 018 with box and papers for £700 on fleabay View attachment 191895 EDIT -better pic
I disagree with this! And it looks pink gold to me, especially in that first picture. I have a few pink gold watches and yes, they are very difficult to photograph accurately. Was this watch serviced recently?
In my view gold capped watches has little "gold content" value combined with being more prone to wear than the same model in steel - sort of losing one asset of each variant Of course, one of my favourite watches are capped and I bought another one last week
All gold is more prone to wear compared to steel. That's why when I find a nice gold/gold capped watch I'll jump on it! IMO really pristine gold/gold capped watches are less common for these reasons! Gold plated (vintage) = 20-40 microns Gold capped = 200 microns I have no problem with gold capped and if I see a nice one will grab it without hesitation! like this one... to each his own I guess.
I have an inferior Constellation as well... Omega Constellation "Pie Pan" by Troels Ølholm, on Flickr (Not the best photo - the dial is immaculate, the facets sharp... And the strap was just for trial fitting!)
Me too i just love gold capped unless I save up enough to hunt for 18kt rose gold in the future. Hopefully I can get the seller to lower to close 1000usd. Here is a gold capped I just got from a fellow member here
