Hey guys, does this dial go with the case and cal 504? When I check the Omega database I would say that the dial does not go with the case but.... Is the dial vintage as well?
Yes it does, The images on the Omega data base only represent one possible dial for watches, not necessarily all of the dials used for a particular model. Model reference numbers would often have dozens of different dial configurations. The reference refers to the case and movement , not the dial in most cases. Of course there were some watches that only came with one dial. This dial may have been refinished (it appears so). It also appears to be missing the crystal retaining ring.
Most collectors believe that the tell is that the dial doesn't say "Constellation Calendar" at the bottom. One one model of dial could possibly fit this watch, since it was discontinued after only one year and replaced with the 2nd generation Constellation (cal. 561). Watchco Australia has been selling NOS Omega service dials for years. After reading this post, now I'm not so sure: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f20/constellation-cal-504-question-602082.html http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WORKING-OMEGA-AUTOMATIC-CONSTELLATION-DATE-WATCH-cal-504-/180740325058Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network As with most things vintage Omega, the only rule is that there is always an exception to the rule. gatorcpa
Thanks, fellers. As usual my flabber is gasted I would just have thought that the dial looked fine . . .
You can see why I was questioning the dial and the rest of the watch. If it had "CALENDAR" under the Constellation it would have looked right to me. With how clean the dial is, you would expect a service replacement dial. As far as I can tell, everything else looks right. Being a rose gold Constellation, it is quite nice.
There are some other small issues that I overlooked. The case looks like a melted ice cube. Too much of the (as Dennis would say) "Oooh, shiny" factor. The crown is from a contemporary Seamaster, not a Constellation. The hands may or may not be correct. All of the above are correctible and would not deter me from purchasing the watch if the price was right. Unfortunately, it rarely is, gatorcpa
The chevrons of the M in ChronoMeter don't go straight down like other M's of the 50X family. It's the font of later model 168005
