Good day ladies and gentlemen.I was looking at some pictures and noticed minor corrosion and pitting mainly on the case back and in between the dog ears . I was wondering if case corrosion and minor pitting was a natural occurrence from a reaction to the metals or from lack of care. For example, here’s mine that I picked up at a garage sale. When on wrist none of the corrosion is noticeable. I’m probably looking to far into this, and... it was just put away wet.. Any info on the watch would also be appreciated. Thanks
Well you have an interesting Connie. Looks like you have a 14381. With quarter Arabic indices pie pan cross hair dial. Should have a 551 movt inside. The corrosion will be from a humid location and a sweaty strap. Which kind of matches with the patinated dial. You’ll have to post better pics of the dial to get a proper critique of that. Have the watch serviced and the information will be inside the watch. Hope that helps.
the fonts look correct the pie-pan would normally have a sharper edge but that might just be the lighting in the photo. they often came with a two tone dial - i.e. different finish to the pie-pan facets the crown is a replacement. here's a link to similar one sold on the forum a while ago (note it doesn't have the correct crown either -should be the slim faceted crown) https://omegaforums.net/threads/vin...tion-semi-arabics-pie-pan-dial-cal-551.10079/
it was probably worn on a perlon strap of some sort given where the pitting is located. nice homey sort of watch.
That soft pie-pan edge is usually indicative of a repainted dial, but I agree that the fonts appear to be correct. Here is a similar dial: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=6712324&rid=25611
Thanks for the info guys! I really don’t think it’s a re dial though. The edges aren’t soft I believe it’s the lighting in the picture.
