Constellation Cal 561 - misleading information from dealer?

I have seen this watch at a store for about 3700€. It is described as a 18 kt 168005 cal 561. But I cannot find a watch on the Omega Vintage Page with that Caliber under that number. I could only take this one picture. Any advice would be much appreciated.

168.005 is the single most produced dog leg lug Constellation I think, and the first few years it housed the caliber 561, followed by (with a short overlapping period) the caliber 564.

Man, they killed the facets on those lugs with the polishing wheel!  ::facepalm2::

Asking €3700 is taking the piss. As @ulackfocus says, the case has been treated with equal parts contempt and incompetence. Stay far, far away.

The lack of "Officially Certified" is annoying too. Unless it is a very early model, it could be a transplant from an earlier reference.

I would have expected the missing text on a 14xxx model, not on a 168.005. But perhaps it’s acceptable.

As mentioned: overpolished and overpriced. Stained dial and wrong crown to boot.

    Welcome @dk_rd
As the others have said this is not a good example and would be expensive even if it were perfect.
If you’re attracted by vintage Connies, to avoid getting burned, then take your time and study the different references and what they should look like

Here’s what a gold dogleg pie pan should look like.

The switch from 5 digit reference numbers (in this instance 14.90x) to 6 digit (16x.005) happened in 1962. If memory serves, the very early versions did have some dials without the OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED, and they would be the ones with the 561 inside.

I don't feel so bad about my Connie being a little polished after seeing that one.

If it's solid gold, it should be a 168.006, the 168.005 is steel or gold capped.

    Thank you so much.
Any idea what a good price would be?!
I still like it... But something worried me.

    the dial is very blistered
    the case is fubar

I posted mine not (just) to show off but to illustrate what it would have looked like originally
(a sharp, gold, dogleg is truly a thing of beauty)

as collectors, no-one here is going to recommend you spend anywhere near that amount on this watch
value - gold price plus a couple of hundred for the movt - if it's in good order

if you have that kind of money available to splash - be patient and you could get a absolutely mint example for that kind of cash

IIRC the 168.006 is the solid gold case Deluxe version with a solid gold dial and the 168.005 could be a solid gold case but non-Deluxe, so without the solid gold dial

The 168.006 is the Del Luxe and the 168.005 is the regular model (in steel, gold or goldcap). The steel and goldcapped models are usually only stamped 168.005, the solid gold ones often share a case stamped 168.005/6.

So this would be about 500€ for the Gold. Overall below 1000€?! I have not seen any watch even close to that (in gold). But I will try to be patient.
I added another picture. Maybe that gives you more information.

Uh oh, we might have to make changes to your account. Is it legal to have any variation of the word "Constellation" in your screen name when you don't even know basic things about them? :p

Big miss on that one. For reference the 168005 case came in the following metals...

    18k 2N yellow gold

    18k 3N yellow gold

    18k 4N pink gold

    18k white gold

    14k 1N pale yellow gold

    14k yellow gold capped

    14k pink gold capped

    Stainless steel

    Cheers, Al

Sliiiiightly off-topic... do you happen to have the colour variations of the Connie ref. 2700 case?
