Don't know enough about Constellations to judge, but this dial and caliber setup are extremely appealing to me... Can't find that combination anywhere to authenticate validity... Has anyone here seen that dial design for a Constellation, and with a Cal. 343? Is this a 2514? A Constellation prototype? Or simply a franken? http://www.ebay.com/itm/121032849368?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Besides the seconds hand which is definitely not original to the watch, I believe it should read "Chronometre" under the Omega Automatic if it were a 2499!? The text does look authentic, I think... not redone I've also never heard of a waffle dial Centenary... now that would be a keeper for sure, huh!!
The caliber 343 was used in several Seamasters as well as the 2499 Centenary. This dial is just something made up, there were no sub second Constellations produced.
Yes... the 343 was used on the second generation Centenary 2499. I couldn't find any Constellations with a Cal. 343. Also, since Constellations were introduced in '52, that movement number seems too early for one... That's why it seemed like an intriguing item to investigate
No. The dial is a concoction made up by a redialler. Although there was a square guilloche dial pattern that was used on a few early Constellations. Desmond did a write up on one such watch a while ago: http://download763.mediafire.com/eojytgumjgfg/jywmiyjt0mm/Twin+Omega+Constellation+model+2652.pdf Hope this helps, gatorcpa
Maybe next time I'll reword my reply - instead of answering in the form of a question, I'll make it a statement saying that some putz refinished a dial to look like another watch. I keep forgetting this isn't Jeopardy.
