Constellation 2852 Black dial advice...

Hello OF,

I need some advice here : I have some very bad pictures (I hate to be that guy...) of what seems to be a black dial Constellation 2852, and not sure what to think of it.

Crown is wrong (I'd expect a decagonal one), but case looks nice to me from those pictures. I asked twice for better pictures, I guess those are the best that the owner can get out of his camera.

Do you think that we can say anything about the originality of the dial (IMHO, legit) and his condition based on those pics?

Have a wonderful weekend 😀

No expert here, but vote for original dial. But then again lume on a dial and hands without T swiss made T.

I’m pretty sure that those do not bear the famous TT’s, the luminescent matter is radium here 😉

+1 for original, as far as I can say from those pictures, can’t find a difference to my 2852s.
Would you have the possibility of a return if it turns out bad? Or, if the price is right, you might just wanna risk it.

Looks good to me, I'd be looking to close a deal if the price is acceptable.

This was generally not used prior to 1962. I would be wary of any watch from the 1950’s or prior that had that marking.

Thank you all for your insights 👍

@MtV Don't think a return is possible, the guy being a (non-collector) private seller... And the price is a tad over a no-brainer to me.

Proposed a little bit under 2000 USD, I might give it a shot.

Based on all those pictures though, I'm worried about the lume colours of the marker. Can clearly see that most of them a desirable (egg color), but the ones on the upper side of the dial (from 10 to 1 o'clock) looks way darker.

@kyle L No problem, I'll let you know 😉

@DaveK Not specified, so I guess it isn't. If I manage to get it, it will go to spa anyway 😀

Before you spend $2K:

1. Crown is not correct. This can likely be fixed, but there will be an extra cost and you are paying a full retail price.

2. The pictures are terrible. There is no way I can tell you if the dial is original or not.

3. No movement pictures. There are several tells on the movement that may help you determine whether this could be original movement that came with the watch.

This is a big gamble in my opinion. It could pay off, but the high price makes it more difficult.

Go talk to Kyle.

I'm a gambling man but I think $2k is a pretty strong ask based on the pictures. Caseback is not a deal breaker but at $2k it should have the right finish and a very good dial IMO.

Agreed, I'd take a punt at €1200- €1400 max based on those pics and that case back.
