I'm wondering about this Constellation and contemplating an offer. Looks nice but i've never seen this combo before: Black dial - silver markers. Inside look nice though. W orth trying?
Although it could be polished out, the awful inscription on the case back completely kills the watch for me.

Normally I wouldn't feel strongly about an inscription, but this one is pretty bad I know that I should love this Constellation, as it has those fantastic markers on a black pie-pan dial (with crosshairs!), but I can't bring myself to liking it I think it's a combination of that inscription and the patina on the dial, which, if the pictures tell the truth, makes the watch appear monochrome and dull. A personal preference on top of that is to have a bumper movement in these earlier designs and full-rotor only in the later ones.
How high will it go? I'm guessing $1500, although once the market gets over paying ttwo grand on pie pans that aren't gold, I could see this hitting that mark, given that a proper back could be fitted and sourced. The 505 is my favorite mvmt, you get the best of both the early tech, with the 24 jewels.
Don't think you can make an offer on the watch as it's a normal auction with 47 bids and counting....
After a second thought, I agree with ConElPueblo and his view of the dial - it IS dull.... Strange though, how the creeping patina only affects the bottom half.
You will not be alone bidding. As @gatorcpa said, you aren't the first to post about it. https://omegaforums.net/threads/rec...-ebay-not-inquiries.1790/page-177#post-632760
That they're priced so much more means people love them for some reason. I had a black-dialed Seamaster 14700 that I mistakenly sold to a woman who shafted me on the price, but there's something to be said for those creamy-silver dials as well! Tom
Not me. I did bid early when @gatorcpa posted but dropped out early as well. I appreciate the recommendation and watching what happened with it. I hope it appears here some day.
Nice Connie and congrats to the buyer But $2000? - an OF feeding frenzy ? a lot of money for an unevenly patinated black dial - each to their own I guess
I thought the patina was beautiful enough.. Uneven like a starry sky, it looked nice enough too me, plus the case condition was incredible. I really thought it was worth every bit of two grand. This is the flagship omega at one of one omega's best years.
