    Hi guys,

I need your advice on a early constellation. It's the 2699 model. Very rare and not much info on the web except for a nice threat on the site of desmond. The person I want to buy it from is a old collector of omega. He's like 80 years. Very reliable. I bought a couple of constellations from him. Now he wants to sell his last one. The 2699 model. But the text on the dial is wrong.

The dial has been repainted wrongly. 2699 should look like this

    Very, very bad...

I hope the other ones @Shabbaz bought were either correct or sold with full disclosure.

Thanks people. I walk away than. Sometimes you hope you discovered something special...

The others (just two) were ok by the way. That's why it's out of caracter. It's not the type of person who sells redials. Maybe he does'nt know himself.. I will tell him about the redial.

    Again, thanks!

To be honest it's an obvious redial. I would really be considering hard if a seller can't tell the difference.

Franken watches are harder to spot than redials imo.

So, just curious here, if the watch is indeed very rare, wouldn't it be worth it to obtain it and get a more skillfully executed redial? Assuming the price is right, of course. It just seems like a crime to discard something like this.

I think amongst astute collectors, redials are death sentences. No one will go near one.

Unless you could find a spare dial to replace it. Until then, it’s just good for parts. Oh, and sane normal people as well, unlike us.

Besides the point that redials are a no-no for many collectors, this dial has been thoroughly ruined. Just compare it to Hoi's: the pie pan edges are virtually gone and the separate brushed & gloss areas have blended into a monotonous finish.

Maybe this galleon can be salvaged from the bottom of the ocean, but it will never sail again (proudly).

I guess it becomes a parts donor then. So some part of it lives on!

I don't think the OP's watch dial is an original 18kt piepan dial that's been re-printed, I think it is a dome dial ( probably not 18kt ) that has been re-printed

Yes, they tried hard to make it fool the right type of buyers. Mom always said, " Aim high!"

Post what else you bought from the old codger.

Yeah you might be right here, but I have seen quite a few 'dulled' pie pans due to generous application of new dial paint.

I second that. If the seller isn’t good enough to tell redials, it might be possible that you’ve bought a couple of not so kosher pieces.

Better to have them checked out and returned if so!

But still... How often do you see a 2699... Even though it's a redial...
Haha.. the old codger... well, I've got one left.. here we go...

Apart from the slight dial blemish I would say the old codger has come good on this one. I would leave the 2699 alone though if I where you.

There are several things I don't like about the last one, too, besides the blemish.

This is what a pie pan looks like originally, and I'm not sure the date surround is an original with your picture.

I was wondering. Single T and missing hour markers? Is it just a variant or it has been cleaned off?

And the more I look at it, it appears to be a dome originally, too.

I'm open to being corrected, though.
