Looking for some info on this one I grabbed today for very little over scrap gold price. I bought it as I think it has original dial and hands, 564 quick set keeping excellent time and movement looks ok. 25m serial so circa 1966 but....the case. Oh dear. I could swap this into a much better case but wanted to ask the forum thoughts first. This would always be a beater/wearer for me to grab and go so not too fussed about originality (I have TT one from 62 for that). Sell case for scrap and source a nicer steel or TT one maybe and correct crown? So it’s 18k with snap on back, heavily polished with observatory almost gone, no Omega stamp or model number inside case back, damaged etc. Is it some local manufacture to get round customs? Purchased today in UK but could be from anywhere.
I love these watches and I would probably proudly wear it. I love the history these vintage watches have, even if they've been repaired or redialed. I would probably try and find a case with a shot movement. But I am the most noob - no nothing - non expert on the site so listen to better advice coming.
It certainly is an odd one. A dogleg never had a snap back. The inside of the case back has no perlage and isn’t gold. The case lugs are the wrong shape. However, the dial looks to be correct. 25,xx is later than ‘66 -more 67/68 - which is borne out by the painted indices inserts. Would like to see the movement. Are you sure the case is gold? No hallmarks and whilst a number of the ‘dings’ are gold through-coloured this looks like base metal grinning through.
Movement shot as requested. I think it’s gold case. That was reflection on lug. It’s a horrid thing tbh and I would like to find an original correct one as movement and dial look good. Maybe it had 18k case originally and it was sold? They then put movement into this horror show! Short of getting extract guess we will never know. It was the observatory logo that really threw me. Lot of trouble to go to for a fake.
Well, the movt does look correct. Whilst it might seem a lot of trouble there were many, many fake ‘gold’ cases made. The only real way to tell would be to have it tested.
