I am considering to buy this 1964 ZENITH 220S, cal 2531. I loved the patina at first sight. The diameter is 34.25mm. The seller says that it is an all original timepiece (except the strap), professionally restored and fully serviced, cleaned but not polished. Please tell me your opinion. 1 (1).jpg
Could you also give me a rough estimate?

The 2531 is a relatively scarce movement. IIRC Zenith only made about 10,000 of them but they only seem to appear in fairly unremarkable watches. In fact, a 2531 was the first vintage Zenith I bought so it does hold a special place in my collection.

I would expect to pay between £300 and £400 for one in a good, unserviced condition and the only thing I.would really say about this one is that the case number seems to have been polished off.

Well, as tyrantlizardrex pointed out to me at the omega forum, all original and professionally restored don't co exist. Could you point the tells of the redial?

Read the Learn to Fish link I provided you in that thread. It doesn't just apply to Omega.

The dial colour looks like paint to me, not patina.
The Z on the dial is slanted, the rest of the word is square & upright.
SWISS MADE has little gap between the words.

Does the hand colour match the index colour?
My Zeniths are a bit younger, but they have reference numbers inside the caseback, & a number on the outside.
The case says waterproof, but is there a gasket?

    The movt looks good.

This certainly is help full. I chose the seller because he has a 100% positive feedback on ebay but also because he is local and I can check the watch in the flesh at his shop. I will visit next week if I don't get completely discouraged from the comments here and check. I will get either a watch or a lesson. (Well one does not exclude the other).

Have you looked at the Sales board here? Frankly, I would start there rather than dodge the landmines the eBay is full of.
