I have been interested in the sale of these for a while. In looking at the example below (sellers pics). Am I seeing new hands, and a polished case? I have only seen of of these in the flesh before. Thanks. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Definitely newer hands IMHO. I can't tell about whether the case is polished or not. Looks decent though. Movement looks nice and clean.

Great model, if not a bit tall. This example looks pretty good. I'd be curious to see the inside of the case back to see if there is a circular scratch from the rotor. The rotor has only a rub mark on the edge at center, so may not be rubbing the case. If the case has been polished, it looks to have been done so sympathetically and with originality in mind. At least it doesn't look deformed on the edges, but a different angle would help to determine how the edge looks.
I owned one briefly with the blue dial and the other bracelet sometimes seen with the 1041/1045's (3028-212). I remember talking my wife into letting me buy it because I could resell it for more. I couldn't, but didn't lose much. Would like to have kept it!

So much DNA in one watch. Personally I've always liked these

Aside from the "Chuck Maddox Grail" this is my favorite Omega use of cal. 1045.

I did not purchase this 1045. I was told, I need to be "responsible"... :( I pretended to behave, BUT secretly have a possible lead on a snoopy, and can't have both. At least not right now... So I let this one pass for that possibility. I will keep watching for another of these beauties though.... thanks again.

I like this model. Is so 70's. And although it is pretty scarce it's not that expensive. I would not bother too much about new hands on this model I must say.

i cannot really live with the fact that they cheapened those 1970ies movements so much over what they produced in the golden years (cal 564)
e.g. a swanneck regulation being replaced by a piece of wire

Agreed, these were built to economy, as were Valjoux' 7750-plastic parts, presses steel parts, minimal finish, etc. However, 40-plus years has proven they are durable, reliable, and can be adjusted to be very accurate. And the Lemania is so intuitive and easy to read!

of course both should work nicely ... but I found it to take quite some fun out of all mechanic watches from the 1970ies ...

kindalike ... its a cool car, just dont open the hood ::rimshot::

    cheers, Al

I have 565 and 1020 movements and while the 565 is georgeous, I can appreciate the smoother sweep of the 1020... From an industrial standpoint I can appreciate the simplified 1020 manufacturing and cost reduction for Omega. Still sad when machines replace the human touch...

I owned one with the more common bar-style bracelet. It is a truly unique watch that is surprisingly small. It is, however, one of the most heavy watches I owned, and while it was tolerable I decided to let it go because it was just a bit much for my 165mm wrist.

So, much for being responsible... Finally pulled the trigger on a TV dial.. rough honest watch, or did I just pick up my first dog?

First impressions..I do like it on the wrist BUT

Crystal is in too good of condition compared to the rest of the watch.

Clasp is an 1162 with modern logo (sunken trapezoid) and bracelet does not reflect overall condition of the watch.

Hands and dial look legit with matching wear. Hour marker lume appears to have smeared on dial which is odd.

Case scratches do not appear speared/softened from polishing.

    Crown I am uncertain.

Afaik, the sunken trapezoid on the bracelet, while more modern than the raised logo, is time period accurate for this reference, especially because it has screws instead of split pens for the removable links (larger holes). It's quite possibly original to the watch. Had it had a sunken square and smaller holes, it would have more likely been a newer replacement.

The 1162 bracelet is vintage, but is no way original to this watch. Look at where it connects to the case, the two links have been un-nicely cut out and the case connecting tubes have been pried open and closed.

The 176.014 has a dedicated bracelet 1204/212, and wouldn't normally accept a generic one like the 1162.

Definitely a hacked up bracelet. Good catch. I suspected as much. On the bottom of one of the links I can see the saw blade impression from being over cut.
