Hi guys! I've been wanting to own an Omega Speedmaster for quite some time now and I finally stumbled upon a seller. This will be my first purchase so I want to make sure I make the right one.

Here are pics from the seller. He's asking for USD 1,775. Hoping you guys can guide me if this is a good purchase. Thanks!

Is that a cooked dial and handset? The lume and paint look mustard.

No t marks in the dial mean it is a new dial or much less likely a very rare early 105.012 dial,

No sight of movement. So I assume it's an 861 but on a watch like this can't assume anything

This, along with the Cheap price All add up to approach with caution.

You need to get the basics:
    Reference (145.022-69)
    Calibre ?
    Serial ?

I am fairly sure it's some sort of put together

Thanks Spacefruit. I'm asking seller tos end me pics of movement. Will upload once I get them. Just for my own knowledge, please explain the points you made: 1) T marks on the dial, 2) cooked dial and handset 3) lume being mustard (what color should it be?).

    Thanks!

The Swiss Made in the bottom of the dial should be surrounded by 2 "T" meaning Tritium filling in the hourmarkers and hands.

That watch have a newer replacement dial that someone likely has prepared to look vintage,

Either that, or a massive intrusion of moisture. The pitting on the dust cover doesn't look good.....

re the first one: surely, if it was an early 105 dial, it would be stepped with the applied metal logo?
on the Ebay one: I'd be a bit suspicious of the patina, given that it's a relatively new watch. Given the stamp on the case back, and the serial number, it looks to be around 1987, AFAIK. As spacefruit says, that makes it a second hand watch rather than a vintage one :)

Still, it looks to be in reasonable condition and a nice watch to wear.

I don't have an opinion on this watch either way but given the price range you can probably get something from a trusted seller here on OF that you know is going to be a good piece

I would also say, that an early 105.xxx dial should be stepped and have an applied steel pmega logo.

Fro the cosmetical point of view, I don't find this Speedmaster very appealing.

Thanks everyone. What do you guys suggest then, where should I buy an Omega Speedmaster (hopefully pre 1978) where originality and quality are assured?

I would love to buy or put a wanted advert in for a 1968 speedmaster but I don't have enough posts. Have I got that wrong? This guy has posts than me.

When you say over polished, what do you mean? Also, what would be a reasonable price for something like this?

If you don't mind wearing a house brick on your wrist. Ugliest watch Omega ever made IMO.
