Made a mess of this post, didn't add my message! I am considering purchasing this 1675 but before I do I would welcome any thoughts from the this forum regarding originality etc. It comes with box, no papers.
Do you have any other information? Partial serial / year of production? Also, pictures are not the best. We can say that it is near the latest production matte dial but was it replaced in its early life, etc.?
I have a number 6740589 which the seller refers to as a case number. I believe it is circa 1977 and the seller which is a retailer informs me it is "all original" That's about all I have at present. I am hoping to view the watch in person in the next week or two.
No, you are looking at a 16750. 6.7mil production is a 1980-81. Dial is appropriate still for a 16750 in that range, matte..
Start here if you haven't done so already: http://www.gmtmasterhistory.com/ Also, there is nothing wrong with a 16750!!!
Looks pretty good, decent case, eggshell dial patina. The bezel insert is most likely a blue back, as they have a tendency to fade like that. Prob should have a red back insert...that will ding value $500-1000, as proper inserts are $$$. What is the asking price? That is the real question.
Agree to all above, early 16750 matte dial. The case has been polished but still remains strong. The insert is correct especially with the tiger stripes fade. Since it's transitional, it could b either red or blue back. All in all a very nice honest example. It has all the charms of a vintage with added quickset. Probably the only 5 digits reference I consider vintage. The question remains, how much? The vintage gmt has a strong resurgence recently. I blame it on the autoconnect.
Great example and we'll conserved. If you don't need it to be a 1675 there are some advantages to the 16750 as the movement allows for quick set and is slightly more robust. Not sure the bracelet is 100% right. And I do mean I'm not sure, not that it is not. Worth asking. As everyone says. It's about price price price. Over 9g I think is too much, over 8g it's up to you. Between 7 and 8 may be right. Under 7 it's good. Great! I say this but I tend to sometimes be off on price as these pieces fluctuate faster than I can track.
It's £6,750 but I think there would be some movement on this. What would you think is a fair price to pay (it is a retailer with 1 yr warranty). I have already purchased a lovely Speedmaster Moonwatch ref 145-022 69ST from them.
That is rich...really rich IMO, but then again I see pounds, do the conversion rate and run for the hills. honestly think that you can find a better example for the money if you shop around...but I am used to buying in the states, so UK and European purchases are out of my wheelhouse. Dealers always charge a premium...I would go private seller.
It is interesting how many of my watches have ended up in the UK as of late. Seems like it is worthwhile to buy in the states and then figure an economical way to get the watch back across the pond.
That's a high price. $8334.97. If you Love it and trust it it's do-able but you are paying top dollar for it. Is it serviced recently? (With paperwork) that is another factor to consider. Also, If the seller has stated it is a 1675 (which could very well be an honest mistake) then he may be pricing it very well for what he thinks he has. So verify with him and let him know its a 16750 and let him do his research. that could bring it down to market. You are definitely on the right track on this one. The advice here is solid and the watch is good so it is going to come to an emotional decision; which is great.
I agree with @watchknut. Price is a bit steep. Wait a little bit one will pop up for reasonable price.
