Hi guys, I've recently spied this beautiful Constellation De Luxe 14381/2 locally. I'm not an expert in vintage Constellations, but I have a general overview of what to look out for. Now, I've been hunting for a good example for years, and may have finally come across one - please note that I wear my watches often, and this one will be no different. This example looks straight to me, albeit slightly polished, but any insight from the OF professionals is greatly appreciated (including the box; it's listed as original but I thought all De Luxe models came in a sterling silver box). The shots:
Dial looks fine to me. Crown looks like a replacement and someone's had a hard time opening that case back along with some scratches on the front of the case by the crown
I agree, the box is just window dressing and it´s missing its insert too, coupled with no service history and the deep scratches in the back it´s more than €1000 too expensive for me.
Case very slightly polished but still good Nice dial Perhaps some spotting between 2 and 4? but could be marks on the crystal (given the damage to the case near there) Yes deep scratches on the rear but you don't see them when your wearing it Depends on price and if it bothers you or not Crown likely a replacement- these do pop up on this reference but never seen one on a de luxe Hope that helps
Silver boxes were an extra cost option with these watches. Not all Deluxe Constellations had them. That one is a few years too early for this watch. gatorcpa
Understandable, but my point was more that I wouldn't expect a dealer with a high asking, who states "fixed price" with his merchandise, would be the kind to be offering anywhere near an acceptable amount for a trade in.
The mismatched box would frustrate me. As stated, the scratches also are something to consider as well. I always recommend buying through the forums. You can do your research on seller's and learn everything about the piece in detail through the threads provided. I've had two very easy acquisitions on here so far, and looking into more as we speak. Have had nothing but high condition examples described and prices perfectly. Happy Hunting, Thomas
