Hi all, ive recently inhereted an Omega watch. Everything points to it being a omega speedmaster professional / moon watch. The back looks real the engraving is superb even through an eye glass , the strap is unwrapped and immaculate, the glass / dome again looks right BUT the dial says omega speedmaster automatic . Not professional. Really concered about it being a fake . Ive taken it to a local watch dealer who says that the back would need to come off to check for seriel numbers etc & he doesnt want to do it. He says I should send it away. They seem to want a lot of money for this to be done.
Now im a novice when it comes to watches & I have done extensive work on the Internet but seem to be drawing a blank.

Any help or advice would be really appreciated

    Thankyou

You need to show us some pics.
Use a macro setting, no flash, in daylight if possible. Dial, back, sides. Try to avoid reflection on the crystal.

It's quite possible it's OK as I haven't seen too many Speedie auto fakes

I was under the impression that there should be seriel numbers etched on the base but have been told they could be under the back cover

Looks like a Speedmaster Reduced 3510.50 to me. Need pics of the insides to be sure.

Do speedy reduced have the "first watch on the moon" engraving?

No they don't and the sub dials are too close together to be a reduced.

Correct. You were also correct about the screw down crown being wrong.

I'm pretty sure that no moon Speedmaster was ever automatic or had a screw down crown...something smells really fishy here!:cautious:

There are automatic Speedmasters - the 3510.50 is one of them, which is what I think that watch was made to look like. They aren't called Moonwatches though, they're called Reduced because they're smaller cases - 40-ish mm versus 42 for the standard manual wind Moonwatch.

Yes I actually have an automatic chronometer Speedmaster...but the watch in question has the MOON screw in caseback, not the snap on back of the reduced, making the watch in question a 42mm size. And all I'm saying a MOON Speedie automatic with a screw down crown smells fishy.

The subdials are wrong for a speedy reduced, the reduced has minutes on the left, sub-seconds on the right, this thing is just a bad fake, bin it.

Sorry about the bad news Dave. But at least you have better judgement with football teams than watches :)

Also, the lugs are way bigger than on a regular speedy.

Every time we get one of these "Concerns on authenticity" threads you get the feeling the the poster already knows it is a fake. This one was very obvious.
