Im sure I wasn't the only one watching this 22409 from Matt Bain https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-...hanical-Watch-Circa-1940s-22409-/401590800892Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Ended at $7388. Have a look at the lugs - note that lateral facet The lugs on every other 22409 case look like this So what is it with the lateral facet? Has anyone seen similar?
No. I have two 22409 and neither have the extra facet. Is it possible someone just ground an extra facet into a stock case at some point?
Looking at the position of the lug holes, I'd say that grounding that extra facet on an ordinary case wouldn't be possible.
I'm by no means even a novice when it comes to this reference, but looking at what is presented at face value, the lug holes in all those pictures of other versions of the same reference - well there is some variability as to their location. Then going back and looking at the OP watch, there is variability in how the facet does (or does not) intersect with the lug hole. Basically I think it could depend looking at those other watches - some of them have enough room to have the facet ground in, and others don't appear to have the room. On the OP watch the facet intersects with the upper lug hole on the crown side, but not with the lower lug hole on the same side.
Yea despite the consternation over the lugs and lume ... I thought this would hammer north of 10k ...
