This Omega cal 285 serial 17.3mil is offered at $400. Not sure if it's worth pulling the trigger, but I like the look. I know the crown has been replaced, but what about dial? I might offer somewhat less, but thought I'd check with those who know much more than me beforehand...
So, he sent me a link to these better pics of the dial: http://imgur.com/a/BCFE9#npfDXYW Although these reveal the more advanced patina around 6, I'm thinking the 'Swiss Made' looks fine, along with the rest... What do you think?
These pics are, as he says, with bezel and crystal removed. Might this be a 'front loader'? Is it 'screw-down'?
Looks like he just popped the bezel off for the new photos. It is a snap-back. The dial looks original, just a little patina-ed (not bad). There probably is a correct O.E.M. replacement crown available from ottofrei. The watch looks okay for the price, but you might try to negotiate for a little less than 400.
So the bezel and crystal will snap off and 'snap-back'? I'm not familiar with this on an Omega... Interesting As for price, yes, thought it was high...add $200 for a service[emoji106]
I meant the case back is tightly affixed to the case, and when it is back in place it "snaps". Yes, the bezel is also removable (i.e. it's a 3-piece case).
Dial appears heaviliy patinated, with uneven discoloration around the bottom rim, so you need to make sure it is what you like. Patination can make a very attractive look, but not in every case. Personally, I think it is not very attractive and thus would find the asking price way too high. Here is a picture of my heavy patinated Seamaster, for which I paid a lot less.
I do like the look of yours, but this one, not so much. It looked much better with clothes(the bezel and crystal) on... I was thinking of offering about 300, but then when you consider adding in the service cost, it's really not worth 500 to me... I'd like to find a fine vintage with beautiful patina like yours, bieb, because the three I already own hardly look their age (kinda like me ).... Thank you, Adam, for suggesting a closer look!
