Come on Down...Let's Play "Name That Next Mission"

If you have been following my Speedmaster Signature Collection thread above this should be pretty easy, and a little fun, for any contestant willing to do a little research.

To the winner of this contest I offer a rare Apollo era Garland P-35 mechanical pencil exactly like the ones flown and used during the Apollo missions. The pencil is engraved with the original NASA SEB#12100081-301 in a slightly different font than the flown ones an in the reverse direction on the barrel. This was done so it could not be represented as an original NASA pencil.

Here is how you can win it....

Take a look at my Speedmaster Signature Collection thread and answer these 3 questions. The person who posts the correct 3 answers in the thread first will be the winner. All entries need to be posted before I add the next mission tomorrow.

Answer these 3 questions:

1) What mission will be posted next?

2) What astronaut will be the signer?

3) What major mission event will be highlighted?

Here are a few hints for #3

This event has to be re-established before using the Speedmaster for 14 seconds would matter at all.

Having a rubbish day at work so this could cheer me up 👍
Hopefully I don't say anything foolish here but my research sources over lunch weren't the best. 😬

1) Apollo 13
2) Captain James (Jim) Arthur Lovell, Jnr - Mission Commander
3) Re-establishing the free-return trajectory with a 30.7 second burn of the Descent Propulsion System.
Basically setting up the 'slingshot' around the moon.

Well it appears all three of the first players had the right idea but Bvertz filled in the last correct answer. While I would have preferred all three answers it's pretty clear what he was doing. If Emeister and CanberraOmega are good with it we will call the game for Bvertz.

Thanks @TLIGuy for the quiz, and especially for the thread about your Speedmaster Signature Collection. I'm a huge fan of the space program and astronomy, so I'm super excited. Since the anniversary of the Gemini 4 mission I've been re-reading a lot about the history. Thanks also to @Emeister and @CanberraOmega. Now I'd like to know more about how John got the astronauts' signatures on the casebacks, and how he chose the watches for each mission.

You nailed it. I was surprised you went Lovell though after seeing him sign for Apollo 8. It was tough enough getting one signed let alone two. I tried not to duplicate signers but it's a long story of how I had to pick and choose who signed for what mission. Between who signs, who doesn't, and who is deceased my options were limited.

Don't think I've actually commented in the other thread but that is a truly remarkable collection.
I've often thought about asking an Astronaut to sign an Omega brochure of the period but to have even dreamed up the idea of your collection, never mind actually pull it off, is completely in a league of it's own. 😎
