Wanted to get others thoughts on here on collection size. I'm at 9 pieces currently and I feel that is too many. Keeping in mind 2 of those pieces are watches that I bought 10 and 20 years ago that are very low $$, but have sentimental value to me. Now that my collection is at this number I wonder if I need to thin out the heard. Wanted to hear other's thoughts on how big is the perfect collection?
The ABCs of collecting are, Always Be Collecting. When you no longer run into watches that interest you, that is an ideal time to stop. If nine or fewer does it for you, then that might be enough.
You're just hitting a barrier in the psyche, a sign you are still a relatively sane person. See you on the other side.
Nine is not a herd... more of a litter. My 12 is becoming a pack but still not a herd. Cull and thin the herd when it's no longer sustainable or viable.
Sorry as I am an English speaker I don't understand the expression, concept "too many" Is it similar to the oft used "not enough" or "can't have enough", used here?
Hi, I only have 4 at the moment (DSOTM, Organa chronograph from the 50's, a vostok amphibian and another soviet watch)
I seem to have hit the wall at 60 watches but I am sure I will find a way to continue. I have not bought a watch in over a year but sooner or later I will find inspiration again.
I've only got about 15 and I just need ONE more. I'm sure that will be the end. There's something comforting about self delusion.
I think you also have to factor in cost of each watch and how much money you are comfortable having in watches. It's one thing to collect Casio, it's another to collect Patek.
about thirty.... I currently think I've got everything I want... enough says I, perched high on my mighty soapbox! But that's likely because I haven't seen the next thing yet.
In my case, no. Half of them being pocket watches, and the last time I wore one of those was 5 years ago. Wrist watches? Maybe 20% of those see wrist time.
I have ~20 and about 25% get no wrist time, and 25% are worn about once a quarter. And the other 50% worn once a few times a month. And it always seems as if one is at the watchmaker for service. More watches = more money on maintenance. My go-to watches are my modern Ploprof and Gemini 4. And when I am in a hurry I grab the X-33. My favorite watch that I never wear is my AT Skyfall. I plan to sell off 3-6 watches and will use these funds to buy one watch. Will save a ton on maintenance and also buy a more expensive speedmaster that I otherwise would not buy (gold speedmaster). Watches I never sell*. *Ed White will be sold when prices hit $25,000.
