Just an FYI for the Bay Area crew; in case you hadnt seen it yet Toppers is no longer an AD ... they moved up to full OB status!
Good news for those of us w/a purchase history there, and another OB in the area is always a good thing.

Did they ever open up a true SF OB? I heard that the Tourbillon is closing

Not only that, but they expanded into a huge space and so their Omega Boutique is full-sized now 😀

I’ve only gone to the Roseville OB and SF OB once… I liked the attitude and helpfulness of the Roseville more. SF feels more transactional. I wanted to talk vintage but I don’t think they’re familiar with the history of the brand. bummer! I want the Ed white but I know it’s impossible. Harder than Rolex! Who would’ve thought

Topper became an Omega Boutique once they moved into the new store. As for the SF Tourbillon Boutique closing, I think the writing has been on the wall for years. The Swatch Group was already closing stores before the pandemic and are down to seven stores.

I just have to share my experience with Kevin Grundy, Boutique Technician (and passer of an old watch nerd's basic test for is-this-guy-a-watch-nerd-or-not) at the Omega Boutique in San Francisco. (I mentioned chasing a 105.012 and he replied with shots of his dad's very own!)

First off, I had my 5-yo in tow for our visit today. We live in Roseville but it's been at least a decade since I've visited San Francisco, and now with a wee one along, it's not an especially fun drive for him, or for me doing the pedestrian avoidance stuff. Kevin suggested I park at the underground parking beneath Union Square. Worked perfectly, since it's about two blocks from their store.

He and I emailed and texted a few days prior about their Speedmaster '57, and I thought, okay I have to be off for MLK, so let's go visit -- "and boy do I hope I'm going to hate this watch!"

Everyone at the store: super professional, incredibly welcoming and so accommodating of my 5-year old, who even now has his own "official" Omega colored pencils and an Omega coloring book! The staff were -- no other way to say it -- lovely towards my son. This matters a LOT to me.

So, what about the Speedmaster '57 with the sandwich dial? It's been on my wrist almost an hour, so bear that in mind!

Fauxtina is real on this thing, and has shades more "mocha" than I would have personally approved it to have. While philosophically, and in in photos, I can't stand it, it's one of those things that you discover you stop noticing and caring about -- or you don't.

This isn't my first one with fauxtina, and I know from experience that I'll stop noticing it. Overall, the legibility of the hands actually seems to improve in low light. Or maybe more specifically, when I'm in a room with ambient low-light sort of coating all the walls around me, the hands are so ridiculously polished and reflective that almost anywhere they're angled, they're picking up and bouncing that light to my eyes. The texture of the dial is incredible; literally what sold it for me.

The bracelet is incredibly comfortable. Lots of shine to it and the top surfaces of the lugs, but with time, that takes care of itself.

Very pleased with the watch, and the experience with Kevin and everyone at SF OB: Top notch!

Very nice.....I really don't understand the fauxtina phobia many people have. It either looks good or not. Looks good on the '57.
