I think this was the item where, as the bids were going up and up to surprising levels, the auctioneer said something along the lines of "this goes to show that quality and condition trump all." Paraphrasing obviously.

Is that complete with premiums? It shows it sold for CHF $80,000 on the app?

doesn't it have an Aldo bezel, a relumed dial and fresh hands according to a guy named "Orchi" on Instagram?

Orchi is not right and within the last week his reputation was on a suicide course.

Wow. These have been undervalued watches for a long time, but not anymore!

im really concerned, its not even a dash one, no broad arrow hands... this will make all other sm300vintage more and more expensive. I have saved up money for one and now I feel that its even more unreachable...

and on the other hands these models are not that often on the market any more - but were produced quite often. it appears as people are holding them back either in expectation of future gains in value or in fear of rising prices so in specific that they can't buy them back without a loss once sold. but if these collectors throw their sm300s on the market again for instance in the next financial crash (2000, 2007) prices will instantly drop because too many might be for sale at such times - and its easy to put them on the market as they are not "rare" models. so I somehow fear that these models are getting ticking time bombs and really dont know what to do.

Compare it with submariner regarding rarity

I don't agree with you here, it has always been a lot harder to find a straight lug Seamaster 300 than finding a straight lug Speedmaster and I can't believe a few coming to market would cause much of a ripple. If the vintage watch market is to crash then I think there are a hell of a lot of other models that would tank further and faster than a 2913

They’ve already been quietly climbing... this wont change the game overnight..
Also, many, myself included prefer the later 2913 / early 14755 with the small arrow handset and lolli. It sets it apart from the 2914 and 2915 and hasn’t been seen on a reissue making it instantly recognizable as something special.

Things at Phillips go higher than market in my experience - they bring tremendous profile to their sales.

    I saw a 1016 gilt dial (but not a minute-track) go for $40K.

I’m not sure their results are reproducible outside of a Phillips sale.

I'm convinced Aurel Bacs is a wizard. He just works some kind of black magic on every sale to bring ludicrous hammer prices.

The 2998-3 didn’t do very well at all, probably would have gone for more on eBay!
