The CK2013, nicknamed soucoupe (saucer) or disco volante (flying saucer) is a beautiful and large reference from the late thirties, measuring 39mm across. I’ve had the good fortune of getting my hands on a really nice example that I’d like to share. First an original catalog entry courtesy of @Tire-comedon I’ve been able to handle 4 examples of this reference with the 26.5SOB movement, but never seen one with the sub second hand pictured above although it’s common on other 26.5 references. I’ve also not seen one with a 23.4 movement, although the Omega vintage database says they’re out there. In addition, I’ve seen at least 2 or 3 late version with 30mm movements. One last deviation from the original catalog above is the crown. I’m going to postulate that by the time the watch was released they streamlined the contours with an elegant sunken crown. I’ve seen one example of this reference with springbars, the rest have curved wire lugs. It’s very likely that this example is completely original and the 26.5 serial is in the 8,7xxxxx range putting it right in the 1937/8 range. The flying saucer name is no joke, the watch measures 39mm by 10mm. The case itself is 5mm thick without the bezel and wonderful low-domed mineral glass. The watch wears beautifully, the warm 2-tone dial has aged gracefully, and blued hands are always a bonus. Please share any information you may have on this grand ol’ reference. Cheers
Awesome piece. The watches from that era are so mysterious that I avoid them completely out of fear of getting burned but wow that one is cool!
That looks so beautiful. It’s amazing that these things can last for so long and in such great condition.
