Just snagged this beautiful Omega Chronostop with dark brown tropical dial on the Bay of E.

Reference 145.010, the so-called Driver version. The dial is rotated 90 degrees so that the watch sits on the inside of the wrist and is easy to read whilst at the wheel; a throwback to pilot/flyger watches perhaps?

Most of this is from the advert
"The watch is in good condition. The 865 movement runs accurately and the chronostop function starts and resets smoothly. The 865 movement has serial number 26577740 which dates it to 1968

The glass is the original one from 1968 with the Omega sign in the centre. The dial is a very nice tropical one which colored brown with a very small spot at half past 5. The hands are possibly replacements."

I remember this angled dial being launched back in the day and, in my early teens, imagining how cool it must be to wear such a watch and driving a sports car.

The watch is better than the listing described and I think that I'm a happy bunny. tmp-cam--849776100.jpg tmp-cam--1939034170.jpg tmp-cam-194494475.jpg tmp-cam--254271250.jpg tmp-cam-971047924.jpg

It saddens me to see this beautiful watch. My dad gave me one in 1971, and I succeeded to trash it beyond repair in less than ten years. What a fool I was.

My Omega Chronostop - bought new in 1971 as a special mail order offer. Cost £21 which I had to pay off monthly as I only earned £8 a week!

Sold to a friend in the late 1980s who then emigrated and we lost touch - but I managed to find him living in Spain about 10 years ago and bought it back!

possibly an earlier version of a non-chronostop driver's watch. IMG_20180603_165950.jpg

That big crown certainly points to "flieger" style doesn't it?

    Thanks guys.

Unfortunately my friend had not treated my Chronostop well and it was in poor condition when I got it back.

This was a shame as it was in good condition when I sold it and was the watch I wore for my wedding.

As it badly needed a case refinish I sent it back to Omega/Bienne requesting them to also fit a new dial plus new hour and minute hands as the lume had deteriorated. Fortunately (in hindsight) they no longer had any new dials. When the watch came back to me I noticed that the replacement hour and minute hands were not the same as the originals and when I queried this with Omega they said they were the nearest hands they had. I then had my original hands relumed and refitted.

Although I do not wear it that often it will never be sold again.

If this case is unusually large perhaps it’s a converted pocket watch with adapted crown and added lugs?

i've been thinking also along that line, looking for any welded portion on lugs base, and decoloration to see if it's converted. apparently there is no signs of those. it's a small body like a junior/lady case. if it's converted, it's the driver's looks for a vintage elgin that attracted me to maintain the watch.
