I find it interesting that there doesn't appear to be any regular moonwatches for sale, only special editions etc.

Good older thread with on-point comments by Archer and others. My area of greatest vintage knowledge is in certain musical instruments, and certainly not watches, but the same principles apply to Christie's and other large auction houses. They won't have the nth degree of specialized knowledge of each piece that some people here do have when it comes to Omega and some other watches. Ideally, bidders should be both very wealthy, thus able to afford mistakes, and very knowledgeable, thus more expert than the auction houses. J.P. Morgan was not only spectacularly wealthy, he probably knew as much about medieval illuminated manuscripts as anyone in the world. That's why he had the greatest private collection of them in modern history. So go get 'em, guys. :)

I would love to buy this one....it will be interesting to see how this auction goes compared to the December auction. However looking at this auction, with the exception of this watch, not much interest for me.

Yep lot 4 and lot 1 (flown X33) are really the only pieces I see that would be worth a 25% buyer's premium. With patience you can find better or cheaper (maybe better and cheaper) examples of all of the other lots on eBay or watchrecon.

I missed that the X-33 was flown. I see the title of the page/auction is "Rare Omega Watches" and I guess in my mind my definition of Rare Omega Watches differs. If I were to list rare Omega watches, there are about 24 others that would have made my list. I will give them the flown X33 and the WG speedy.

I would love the WG speedy, not sure on this price however. They list it as the reference that includes the bracelet, but I suspect the bracelet has since been sold, and it is not included in this auction, as I don't see it in the pics. I have asked for them to confirm.

I was on the fence about purchasing the WG Moonphase (listed on OF last week for $8.8k) and figured I'd wait for a WG Speedy. So I will be watching closely to see what price point this ends up selling.

Lot 24 is an absolute steal at current bid. Plank dial chronometers are pretty rare.

I doubt it will stay there.

Shame for us Brits as will need to add import vat and duty so adds Over 20 per cent plus on strike price

I must say I like the 145.034 gold mark II as I don't see good ones (which still the lapped finish in place) come up that often... although it's hardly a mint one and with the 25% hammer price auction fees plus UK import tax it's going to make it quite expensive.

Is that in addition to the NYC sale tax?

    Hammer price
    Buyers fee 25%
Sales Tax 8.875% (is this paid for just US purchases? and is this for all out of state purchases?)
    Shipping 1%
    Insurance $100

So for US based purchase it adds ~35% to the hammer price.

For for the Brits, is it ~45% or ~55% above hammer fee?

This not paid at the source when the item is shipped directly outside of New York. However, residents of other states may have a reporting requirements. Most state and local use taxes are less than the 8 3/4% in New York.

If it goes outside the USA, then sales/use tax is never paid.

Agree with those above that picked lot 4! One of my dealers and Omega connoisseurs said WG Speedmasters are hot :)
Me, I'm just a mvmt nerd and love all Speedmasters with display backs :p

Auction over, but no winning prices.

Yeah disappointing that things have reverted to the estimates instead of realized pricing. Perhaps they will publish after everything is wrapped up fulfillment wise. You would hope they would be on the side of transparency.

I Put a coupe of bids in on lot 10 at around $2000 but last I saw it was north of $3000
Which with only 3 pics and the other issues including all the extra taxes and fees was way too rich for me
