Just saw this on hodinkee... https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/christies-omega-speedmaster-sale Exited even though i am not in the market right now for a vintage speedy (and i am sure the prices are gonna be out of my range) whats your thoughts on this?
1st thought - this one's gonna be a lot of fun to watch! 2nd thought - I may have been a bit too quick with some purchases this summer as my budget is $0 for a while 3rd thought - "Christies guarantees they're all correct" hmm, where have I heard this before & it's turned out not to be true at all? 4th thought - I'll still maybe take the day off to see some of these during the display period 5th thought - Christmas is 10 days early this year!
I own a 2998-2 that was originally sold at the Geneva Omegamania Thematic Auction of 2007. Now I can actually attend one closer to home!.
I'd like to attend, not sure I can though. Should be super fun. I might be there as a straight-lug fan instead of a participant as I think the prices will be high.
I've been having my own private Omegamania (on the receiving end!) this summer so I doubt I'll be bidding. But if a number of us here are planning on going, why not make a thing of it?
From the press release: "Each watch featured in the Speedmaster 50 sale has been thoroughly vetted by the Christie's Watch Department to ensure total correctness" Also from the press release: (Bag of jelly babies to the first who spots it, delivered to the sale - Ill be there)
Look at the lugs on that 2915! I'll be back in the market by December but don't expect to be active at this sale. Nevertheless, I'll be looking on with extreme interest.
Yes I think so, or i suspect a 105.002-62. But these clowns in the Auction house miss that and have the absolute front to say that they have checked them by experts. Ill bring the jelly babies
Not at home so can't check, but shouldn't a 2915-1 have the oval shaped 'O'? I'd like to see other pictures of this case. It looks too good to be true.
