Tiny auction house in upstate New York is selling a stunning and correct 2998 with chocolate dial and bracelet . https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/56997282_omega-speedmaster Looks to my eyes like a very honest and correct example - lots of gunk and unprepared for sale. Original estimate by the auction house: $500-1000! I’ve bid it up to $20k, but that’s the limit on my capital at present. As it clearly hasn’t flown under the radar, I thought OF would have some interest!
$22,000 with 9 days left until the auction officially starts! Thanks for sharing. This is miles and miles outside of my wheelhouse but I'll be curious to see where it ends up.
@Spacefruit has valuation for these around $20,000 (Running), $35,000 (Good) and $60,000 (Collector). Given the dial, I have to think this is a $60,000 watch in the right environment.
There's gold in them thar hills!! Beautiful example that's all correct. Tropical dial is perfect - I'll take this, with all the grime and imperfections, over a dealer-prepared oven baked tropical dial. If only I had an extra $50K collecting dust....
Chocolate joy. Wow. Now that is a beauty. Is it me or have we hit a period of super nice 2998, 2915 just hitting the market. Here's hoping that people just get bored of the influx. However, I sadly doubt it......now where's my next 'poor mans' anything purchase...
Thanks for sharing, seems to be in original condition and never been touch. All parts are so nice, i really love this speed ❤️❤️
The auction location is in the tiny town of Pine Bush, NY. It's quite probable that the auction house did not realize the value of this timepiece...in this case the starting bid of $250 seems "innocent," and not a ploy to generate frenzied bidding. But who knows? It's also quite likely that whoever holds the current high bid of $22K has a much higher max bid that hasn't yet been triggered. Should be interesting to see where this ends up.
