My Sunday morning trawling turned up a nice looking Speedmaster with a chocolate dial and 1863 movement - my research tells me that Omega produced a ‘faux’ brown dialled Speedy, but I couldn’t figure out which year it was from. Also, I can’t make out the Geneve pattern on the bridges, etc. - did all 1863s have this? I started looking when the watch was at AUD$760, but it’s doubled since then. Auction closes in just over 7 hours from the time of this post, details here https://www.lloydsonline.com.au/LotDetails.aspx?cid=42&smode=0&lid=2040394&pgn=1&pgs=100
For posterity, this just hammered for AUD $2,810, plus about $500 buyer’s premium. Seems like a good deal for about US$2,300, most I’ve seen go for over $3,000.
