Wandered into the Chicago Boutique in shorts and a tshirt with the Queen and three grandkids expecting to be thrown out. Instead was given a great tour, a copy of Omega Lifetime and spent half an hour talking watches with rep. Aaron Whitmer. Hats off for the great service! I can tell I'm a vintage guy, the 1952 Museum piece was my favorite by far.
I was there a few years ago. Actually, though I live in Chicago, I've been in the boutique in Boca Raton more often (since I visit my stepmother there and it's a shared interest...). I also liked these Museum pieces:
I'm a 1951 and the vintage tdmp is not a wearable watch but my new grail may well be the 1951 museum tdmp. I need to learn more but I am leaning towards screwing my heirs for what I want.
Glad you had a good time at the boutique - I have yet to visit one (an Omega one that is). I know when I was in Chicago and went into the Rolex boutique they were very helpful - almost too helpful actually. I had one lady trying to get me to pick something to try on the whole time I was in there - I told her a few times I was just browsing. I really went in there because I'd never been to a Rolex branded boutique before... BTW anyone who throws you out because of how you are dressed is not a very bright salesman. I never "dress up" to go to watch stores and I have always been treated well. We did some car test drives on Saturday and I wore jeans and a tee shirt, and they let me take whatever cars I wanted at the BMW dealership...the M4 was nice! Of course they do know us there, but even when I went to the Jag dealer to test drive the F-Type with people I didn't know, there was no issue....well other than the battery was flat in the one they had for test drives! Just when I was getting around to convincing my wife that the new Jags are more reliable then the era when we used to own one (it was a money pit!) the fact they could not even unlock the car they let people test drive was not a good sign... Going back there sometime this week and hopefully it will be in good enough shape to leave the lot this time.
It's a fantastic boutique with great staff. I stop in there from time to time, and last time happened to be wearing my Ed White. Ended up chatting with one of the associates for 25 minutes, and they even pulled the Moonwatch book off the shelf and started flipping through it with me. A friend of mine also attended a private event there two weeks ago and said it was a great time. Hopefully I'll make it to the next one.
I had a similar experience at the Michigan Ave. Omega boutique. I walked in wearing shorts and a cheap vintage Vulcain. The guy acted truly interested in the simple wrist piece and was just happy to talk Speedmasters with me. I tried on a few and left with a nice bag of magazines and brochures, which looked like I bought a very expensive watch. I was a little worried I'd be jumped on my way out actually. High praises on the customer service
