Some of you may have seen this for sale on another well known forum usual Uncle post then For Sale but only 3 posts few people were quite horrible to the seller.

Noticed that the seller had reduced the watch because being a 1970's sub has a service dial hands and bezel and a polish or 2 and 93150 bracelet

We chatted for quite abit and i put the proposal that would he be willing to send the watch to a "middleman" in the UK for verfication etc ie the guy who services my watches

The seller agreed and was duly posted on Monday

Arrived today and went to see it looked alot better in the flesh even came full of cheese

Checked over running is not great requires a full service but otherwise all ok clean movement and 6 previous service marks

Story is belonged to the sellers uncle who was a marine in Vietnam and then joined the CIA worked all over Asia never married worked hard, drank hard and played hard. On his infrequent visits to the US all's he ever talked about was him being a marine and his rolex.

Lived to his 80's none of the family sentimental so wanted to sell the watch to split the money between them.

given it a quick clean and poly watched the crystal

The uncle Provenance is BS unless there is proof. Either way it adds zero value.

The service parts are attractive.

Definitely agree. It's a nice looking watch, especially if the price was attractive.

I wish we knew what the original Red Sub dial looked like when it was replaced!

Lovely watch. But I would definitely get that case back to "NOS"-Look....

Not sure. The crown guards are already pretty small, and the lug holes seem indented and oval. I think that refinishing this case would require the removal of a lot of material, and I'm not sure it would be worth it. Maybe just leave it as it is.

no i'm just going to leave it as is as it will require some lazer welding as it does have abit of corrosion not much just around the case where the caseback sits but then ill be changing the watch to make it something its not

I agree with that mentality. I feel like there is sometimes a push to make every watch look "collector's" quality, but there is always a place in a collection for a watch like this.

Obviously the case isn't perfect and it has service parts, but it is attractive and makes for a good daily wearer without fear of marking the case or adding another scratch to it

It looks way better without all that cheese ! Nice piece, I definitely agree with your choice of keeping it that way, I fear that polishing it would remove too much material on an already thin case.
