So most of have removed cheap and replaced with affordable as there is a huge distinction.

So why not replace expensive with costly?

Discuss.

Seiko = Cheap (but good value).
Omega = Expensive (for an entry level brand).
Rolex = Costly (for pocket, value, and personal reputation).

You are right. I think I'm going to update my words:

Cheap = rock-bottom
Expensive: a king's ransom

I didn't need a Rolex to ruin my reputation. 😀

I thought luxury was a relative term, because a wise man once said a Starbucks coffee can be a luxury for some.

Is there a German word that means, “a watch you don’t tell your wife about until she notices you wearing it one day and you try to casually act like you’ve owned it for years.”

I think cheap implies substandard not good for the money. Affordable is low cost but good quality.

Expensive too many has the connotation that it’s not as good as the price implies.

Hence costly as the opposite to affordable. It’s has a high cost but is worth it.

How about “refined”?

As in, “honey, if you’re making me dress up for this dinner I can’t wear one of my cheap watches, I need something more refined.”

How about "Shit-ton of money"?

More money than I have but I really want it.

Seems the price is too dear for me.

I find that cheap stuff in the long term is more expensive. A cheap watch (or any other item) often needs to be replaced or repaired more often than one that is to dear for my pocket book. Even if it is "cheap at twice the price."

Affordable is just another Orwellian term used by salesbots. It has no real meaning.

On the “Next Door” forum folks are using the terms “Reasonable” or “affordable” . They mean “cheap”

Off Topic, but I must resist the urge to create chaos on Next Door, people are way way to serious... FooGirl said she would leave me if I created a fake account to have fun on that platform...

A friend once told me that paying more than £20 for a wristwatch was crazy. In the next breath he described bidding on a Delft plate at auction. He had gone to £4,000 but it went for more than £30,000. One old china plate 🙄

It's all relative.

Wife, tween and upgrades to the house are expensive

First marriage was costly

I'll take expensive over costly any day 😎
