I just got to thinking that I don't see any really cheap watches on here. I don't mean the sort of nasty, badly made, fashionable wrist wear that you can see every day, but rather a single thread for boot (garage) sale finds; ebay catches and what were once fantastic arm candy that you've brought back from the dead. It's the end of the weekend, so let's see what you've got that cost less than a decent leather strap. I'll kick us off with these three, a combined cost of £125. All keeping time and ticking strong: That's a Waltham A-11; a similarly aged, unsigned, Swiss tank (and it's come in at less than the price of a decent strap because the strap is the only one in my box of bits that fits ... I know the colour match isn't in the least bit good); and, a silver trench watch dating to 1918. Let's see some real bargains!
£2.79 plus postage a few weeks ago. eBay 7 day auction but I was the only bidder. Sterilized WWW (most likely a Record), or perhaps a GS watch. It will arrive next week so I'll know then. Fingers crossed.
Pocket watches are, ridiculously, cheap. Fashion and watches - when the two don't coincide, it results in utter cheapness. This one, though more than I'd like to pay for a decent leather strap, was £116.60: Meanwhile, this one cost me £12.50 and £20 to bring back to full health:
Had a look back at through some old photos. I bought a job-lot of watches early last year for around 20 euros (from memory), mainly for an interesting looking Huber that I was hoping might be German military. It wasn't, and it was a wreck, but hidden in a little box were three seemingly NOS small Huber ladies watches with quite nice movements. I'd forgotten all about them so might dig them out this week and see if they running.
Most of the Russian watches are cheap...they are not Swiss made but you can have on idea on what time it is..
So it turned up and it is a dirty dozen WWW Record, or at least it was when it started its life. The case back has been sterilized and the dial appears to be an MOD dial but without the 10034 marking. That makes it quite interesting... as it suggests that perhaps it was the military themselves that de-marked everything. Maybe a real "James Bond" watch. Photos next to another Record project watch. Edit to add a photo of a regular MOD dialed Record for those who don't know about the 10034 dial type.
Wowsers, at £2.79 you won this thread! Nice spotting there, just goes to show I guess that the odd bargain does still slip through the net.
$170 including a full post purchase movement overhaul and a new two piece Perlon... to become a birthday gift. Hopefully it’ll run for 10 years before needing another.
Nice Waltham. I guess it's a chrome case, but looks to be in really good condition so no worries. Someone is going to get a nice present
Ok, perhaps not the best bargain but one of my favorite... $20 for the head... $200 (Inc postage) for the restoration... Doubt It would ever sell for $220 but it’s a rescue keeper now.
In all your excitement you seem to have missed the fact that I did let you know https://omegaforums.net/threads/cheap-thrills-and-kicks-watches.64082/#post-809567
