Ive just taken my grandfathers old seamaster polaris to be serviced with Omega. In the quotation they've asked for permission to change the calibre from the 1441 (which I think they only used for a short period of time) to the 1538.

Does anyone know the difference between the two. Pros & cons etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

The 1441 is thermo-compensated, therefore much more accurate than the 1538, which is not.
I believe that if you want your 1441 serviced and not replaced by Omega it needs to be sent to Bienne.
