I wanted to know if anyone recognizes the maker and if these are to be sheltered from harm or used. I bought the colorful “bowl” at an estate sale for a 4-5 dollars before March lockdown. There are 7 plates each size. I assume from a cursory google the plates are 1940’s-50’s. Anybody collect ceramics?
I went to the ceramic museum in Toronto once. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the visit. I used to have a plate that came from my grandmother’s house. The back was stamped “made in occupied Japan”. I thought that was fascinating - I sadly dropped and shattered the plate lastly, I watched a bit of a YouTube video that talked about using a black light to vet ceramics. Kind of interesting
My wife made a whole mess of our kitchen with her ceramics hobby. Your stuff is a lot nicer than hers, bless her heart.
Along with my tea addiction (and collector gene) comes a lust for Yixing teaware. These are all 80-180ml pots used for gongfu brewing. A slippery slope fraught with more peril than the vintage watch world. Like my watches, these pots are used daily and enjoyed. No safe queens.
Just to be clear, I am not a ceramics collector, I was asking for assistance from such collectors if OF has any. I haven't sunk THAT low, just yet.......
First one “Occupied Japan” are good to use, worth scrap. Mass produced for the western world. Here is a rabbit hole for you. https://chano-yu.com/famous-japanese-potters-and-marks/
