I just saw this centenary. I thought it looks ok after comparing it with the pictures from this forum. But I have absolutely no experience with centenaries. So I was hoping to find out what do you guys think?
Is it just be or is that case polished down quite a bit like you can actually see the spring bar ends sticking out...
I don't think that this Centenary is over-priced for Europe or the UK. Ones in similar condition have sold for around this figure (£2,500 GBP).
This particular Centenary is not one of the very best for condition, but nonetheless seems a pretty honest example. From Portugal, and with the Portuguese hallmarks on the outside of the caseback, it has a decent but patinated dial, original hands which are in good shape, and a somewhat polished but acceptable case (I wouldn't worry about the protruding spring bars, you often see this on Centenaries and it usually just indicates that the spring bars are the old style with long ends). The crown of course is a replacement but not horrible and will do until a better one can be found. The movement is not the greatest but it is a runner and I would imagine it will respond to a decent service - at least the banking stop springs are correct. The case and movement numbers fall into the correct sequence in my table so this one is likely authentic and not a Franken. I have nothing to do with the seller, but my view is that this example is an attractive watch which one could wear without too much worry and enjoy for what it is.
Really? For that kind of money I'd sell mine and it's in MUCH better shape! (not an April Fool's Day joke either)
I think prices have gone up since you bought yours! You bought yours for a great price even at the time.
Well, yes I know that you would all like to pick this up for around £1,500 GBP but I think those days have gone - but you can always try a lowball offer . . . one not too much better than this sold very quickly last year off a BIN of £2,700. Who knows? These 2500 JUB Centenaries do not come up very often, so that it is hard to make valid comparisons. Remember that in Europe we pay no import duty or VAT on this watch, whereas if Dennis sells me his example from the USA I have to pay 20% on top.
20% of a declared value of...... oh, I don't know...... maybe $1000 because it's an "old watch for repair"...... isn't terrible!
The slight snag with that is . . . if it goes missing in transit, then all I can claim from FedEx is $1,000
Could be wrong, but I think I've seen a member ot two that travels between the US and EU offering some transport service......... £2500 for Ulackfocus' JUB is a good deal IMO. Hard to find a JUB in the condition of his.......
