I have been lusting for this great white for quite sometime already but nothing was being offered locally. I was already decided on buying one in the USA this January, 2019 where I have a scheduled trip. Fortunately, this offer came about. The owner is from a seaside town famous for its dive sites and was a diving instructor during the 70s. Now retired, he has decided to sell his watch and contacted a local watch dealer that I have dealt with before (sold me one of my Gruen Ocean Chief). The initial price offered was on the high side but we were able to agree on a more realistic amount. We closed the deal even if I have not seen the watch in person. I finally saw it yesterday and its an honest all original watch that has been well used but not abused. The case looks to have been slightly polished before but still has some minor dings and scratches. The Mk4 dial is in very good condition with even light cream patina. The bezel has a few minor scratches and the 93150 bracelet with 585 end links has a little stretch already but still in very good shape. Overall, it is a good catch and a great addition to my collection.
Nice... even though I have three, I’m still foggy about references and variants ... why is it called “great white”?
Congratulations! You caught a nice one there. I had a mk1 dial Great White a few years back. I love the reference, but the example I had was badly over polished. I didn’t feel too sad to let it go, knowing that my next encounter with a Great White would surely be with a healthier specimen.
Well done! A beautiful Mk I dial to boot. Seems to be in amazing shape. Cheers, EDIT: Hard to tell from the photos. Is it a "m" or "m" in the depth rating? I might have wrongly assumed your dial to be a Mk I?
