So this morning I strapped on my Kon Tiki 1973 reissue to wear today and I just heard a terrible sound coming from my watch. It momentarily concerned me that there was a terrible issue with the rotor. Then I remembered that I have just replaced the original mesh bracelet with a rubber Hirsch strap. The sound was the strap slightly squeaking as I moved my wrist.

The most heavy duty and bulletproof rubber straps are the vintage tropic. You can't go wrong with them.

Uncle seiko sells some great tropic repops for a good price. Worth having one in the arsenal just for the sake of it

I maybe the only one but I'd love to see a tropic that was made for a folding clasp (I know it's not true to the original) I ran the idea by Uncle S. and his response was.... "I hate folding clasps"........ Well then, I guess it was a dumb idea Haha

You can put on a deployant anytime. I've got one on my Tropic repro.

What kind of clasp? The buckle end on most non deployant straps are shorter than deployant straps and the folding clasp doesnt sit center.

I took a short video that you could really hear the squeaking in well but I don't know how to upload it.

Butterfly. They more or less center on my wrist. I also prefer butterfly to single fold - much more comfortable.

Just took a snap of the watch I'm wearing. 70 or 75 mm short end works just fine.

Thanks for the info, I actually have a bunch of those (kinda went thru a phase for a year where I ordered one for every watch I owned haha) I'm just not into the butterfly anymore these days but you are correct (and I totally forgot) those use reg straps. I much prefer the single folder however.
