Case back reference number?

Hey guys,

I have been doing a lot of reading on this forum, great place and tonne of information.

One question I have is about the referencing the case back number. I see this mentioned in a lot of posts and comments.

If my research is correct each case back has a reference number that you can cross reference to the serial number to see if the movement matches the case?

Have I got that correct?

And if that is correct where does one get the information to reference these two number against one another.

Thanks for the help

This information is contained in the Omega Extract from Archives, that you can request. Unfortunately this will set you back abut 100 USD.
The case back in most cases will have a model reference number, sometime (particularly gold cases) it has its own serial number and not the model reference number. Sometime it has both.

Kinda...

If your lucky the model/reference number on the caseback is in the online Omega Vintage Database. You can use serial number charts to see if the movement serial number is in range for the watch.

otherwise you can pay for an Omega Extract from the archives with the serial number and they will tell you the reference it shipped with.

BTW, some old models had case serial #, which often (mostly? always?) was different than and had nothing to do with movement #.

Early models and some gold models made locally to get around gold tariffs.
