Just saw this too. I’m typically skeptical of Tiffany dials, and wasn’t even sure if Cartier dials really existed, but this seems to have some pedigree/documentation.

Not my style at all, but quite an interesting (at least historical) piece, assuming it is real.

I think you’d have to be off your rocker to pay the premium they’re asking for “Cartier” on the dial, given the cosmetic condition of the watch.

So an $80k+ premium for the store name? Maybe move this one to the "optimistic price" thread.

The price that a watch sells for above its original selling price is heavily driven by rarity. Yes, most of us would rather buy two or three killer examples of non-Cartier-branded Speedy’s, but to the person who buys the Cartier dialed variant, it’ll be for them about owning something rare and unique.

Let’s be honest with ourselves boys and girls, griping about someone being stupid or insane for paying big money for a watch with Cartier on the dial isn’t too far detached from being one of the people who thinks we’re all nuts paying $10k for a watch that doesn't tell time as well as their cell phone or a $10 digital Timex.

It’s all about what you covet and what you covet will always be a personal matter.

I get your point, however, even those who do collect the rare and unique have some sense of how much more from the standard issue, should the rarity command. And in this case, it appears that the mere addition of the name on the dial, for many, does not justify the disproportionate price increase.

If you have the money to spend $108k on it, why not drop another $30k on an example with a better bezel and case...and swap.

That's a fair assertion. Ultimately, it'll sell or it won't and that will be the best indicator of value. You've got to admit, though, for someone looking for exclusivity, the chances of walking into a room full of watch collectors and finding another person with a gold, Cartier-signed Speedy on their wrist are somewhere between zero and zero.

Indeed, but the Milton/Cartier watch has a DON bezel, while the one above is DNN. NOW the price differential makes sense...........

Anyone know where the list of who was presented the first 50 is?

Odd a numbered one has a Cartier unless 2 sets of numbers?

Edit.... never mind it was 30 and they had a different case back.

Imagine if Carter and Tiffany got married and had a baby? Now that would be the speedy to own!

On a more serious note, rarity doesn't not equate to value. Personally, I'm not a fan of the store branded dials, but even beyond that, this price is a little extreme, especially given the difficulty in proving authenticity of the marking .
